As birds embarked on their fall migration journeys, 51猎奇入口 and partners welcomed approximately 250 visitors to Community Day at the John James 51猎奇入口 Center (JJAC) in late September. The event brought together local artists, performers, food vendors and community organizations for a day of dance, learning, and cultural exchange.
This years' celebration expanded on last year's theme, and included greater participation from the local Indian community, with a Kuchipudi dance performance by Sri Sai Nataraja Academy and an educational table hosted by the Hindu American Foundation.
Visitors also enjoyed Mexican folk dancing by Ballet Folklorico Yaretzi, a local DJ, henna tattoos, bird-themed art activities, and international food from vendors including Mucho Peru, Taco Loco, Apka Bazar and Bruster's Ice Cream. Community partner CCATE (Center of Culture, Art, Training and Education) led a hojalata workshop, where participants decorated tin with colorful depictions of sacred Aztec birds, including eagles, owls, and hummingbirds.
Community Day also coincided with the JJAC fall/winter exhibition, Tree of Life, featuring bird-inspired artwork from Natessa Amin鈥檚 Split Inheritance series alongside 脕rboles de la Vida (Trees of Life), Mexican clay sculptures created by local community art circles and Las Artivistas of CCATE.
The Bird Migration Explorer offered another way for visitors to connect with birds across borders, sharing information about bird-friendly coffee and its role in supporting habitats for migratory birds wintering in South and Central America.
